Learn about Clayton, IN

The small town of Clayton is located in Liberty Township of Hendricks County, Indiana. It is home to 972 residents, according to the 2010 census. It is situated near Interstate 70 and on State Road 39 between Danville, Plainfield and Mooresville. It was initially named Clayville in honor of Kentucky statesman Henry Clay when the town started in 1829. It was then platted in 1851 by George W. Wills. In 1858, its name was changed to Clayton to avoid confusion with another town named Clayville in Dubois County. The town was incorporated in 1909 and boasted a population of 497 at the time.

Clayton has several annual events that it is known for. The Fall Festival in September is sponsored by Clayton Community Association and features events like horse pulls, tractor pulls, live bands, a parade and more. There is also the Triple F Ride in June, a non-profit bike rally which starts at the local Lambert Park.
