Learn about Pittsboro, IN

Pittsboro is a town located in Middle Township of Hendricks County in the state of Indiana. It has a population of 2,928 people, according to the 2010 census. The town was founded in December 9, 1834 by Simon T. Hadley and William L. Matlock. It was named after Hadley’s hometown of Pittsborough in North Carolina, although the spelling was later changed to Pittsboro.

The town was incorporated after an election in April 6, 1906. Progress grew steadily upon its incorporation, seeing many infrastructural improvements as well as new services. Its government consists of a five man Town Council that is elected by the people.

In 2008, a parade was celebrated in honor of Olympic silver medalist Bridget Sloan. Another notable resident of the town is professional racecar driver Jeff Gordon.
